| Don't like when people spend money on me
So, as most of you know, my birthday was on Saturday. I told husband not to get me anything, since I had just gotten myself a new pair of Mizuno running shoes, and a Polar HRM. which were supposed to be my birthday presents! Well, Saturday morning rolls around, I finish up at Bodypump and Zumba, and head to my MILs house (where he was already) because she told me at Zumba she had birthday gifts for me. So, I get to MILs house, and there they both are with tons of gifts. I started with opening presents from my MIL, who spent wayyyy too much, by the way, then got to hubby's gifts. I was just so overwhelmed. So what did I do? Started bawling. Then my MIL starts crying then my husband starts tearing up. Way to ruin it, Rox and make everyone feel like isht! :/ What is my issue? Obviously I'm insane. who cries because they get overloaded with presents? ME! The gifts were all things I've mentioned to hubs in passing or things I've said when I was just rambling. I think that's what got me. the fact that he listens/listened to anything and everything I was saying. I was upset that I had already bought the shoes and HRM, which were supposed to be my only presents! Then they both go way over the top on gifts. Ok, lounge analyze my crazyness. here's something i've been working on. instead of saying "i didn't deserve that" i try to say, "you really didn't have to do that!" because in their minds, you DO deserve these gifts, like buggy was saying. there's many other ways they could have shown their love for me, so really, they didn't HAVE to do anything, but they still think i deserve it. see what i'm saying? if not, i understand, lol! i'm not good at relaying what's in my brain. however, we have a friend that REFUSES any nice thing we do for him. it's annoying as hell. so i try to remember how annoyed i get with him when he does that crap. for example: his birthday wasn't too long ago so we had him and some friends over for a tiny party. i made a cake. a box cake with homemade frosting. super easy peasy. well he almost refused to eat the damn thing because "he didn't want anything and we didn't have to go to all that trouble" here's the thing. we wanted to!! we wanted him to have a special day! granted we didn't spend loads of money on him, but we did want him to have a nice birthday. so just try to remember that they WANT to do this for you :) i know you are appreciative, and i know you make sure they know it too :) trust me, i've been working on the same thing, too, lol! Gah, I can totally relate to this! I am probably the only high school graduate that BAWLED her eyes out while going through graduation gifts Not because of the "Oh gee, this is the the beginning of a new phase of my life, miss everyone, blahblah", but because people spent/gave money to me. Seriously. I was so upset I had to walk away from it, take a nap, and go back to opening the cards and things hours later. I don't cry every time I receive gifts, but I do feel an extreme sense of guilt on most occasions. I think it comes out of feeling like I don't deserve things as well. Seems to be the correlation. Since my graduation fiasco, I've learned to. Accept things better? I had to think about it this way: I am the first person to go wayy overboard on other people's gifts. I remember the little details that make people happy on a daily basis. I often put other people's needs, wants, and desires before my own. In a way, I do deserve nice things every once in awhile, because I'm usually doing nice things for other people. Gah, I can totally relate to this! My MIL one year bought me two, yes two, Coach purses because she saw me looking at them through the window at the mall and saw I already had one and so she knew I liked them. I absolutely wouldn't accept them and we argued about it until she agreed to take one back. I always feel undeserving and then wind up hoping they didn't spend all this money because they think I expect it. I am happy with foot massage coupons husband makes himself!!! He made me a popup valentine's day card one year (he's an artist) and it's one of my favourite things!! |
